Frequently Asked Questions

You can find answers to most of your burning questions here!

  • Do you have availability for today, tomorrow or thereafter?

You can always check my real-time availability from my booking system and book your seats here

  • Why do you recommend booking the tour on my first day in Rovaniemi? What if the tour has to be cancelled?

Booking the tour for your first day here gives the most options and the highest chances for a successful tour. Sometimes the weather is too difficult to go on a tour for example if there’s thick cloud coverage or snow storms all across Finnish/Swedish Lapland.

When there’s practically no chance to see the Auroras anywhere within driving distance from Rovaniemi I don’t want to waste your precious time in Lapland and will reschedule the tour on one of the following days with better chances.

  • What does your guarantee mean? How is it different from the other “guaranteed” tours in Rovaniemi?

It’s very simple: if I can’t find the Auroras for you during the tour I will either refund your ticket price back to you in full or reschedule your tickets for the next tour, depending which option you prefer. Plain and simple.

Many other companies use “guaranteed” as just a marketing buzzword and hide behind different shady tactics to keep all (or most) of your money even when their tours fail to deliver what you wished for.

Despite my extremely high success rate of over 98% there is always a very small chance that the Auroras won’t be visible during the tour - but even then I’ve never needed more than 2 tries to find the lights for all of my customers throughout the years!

  • Is pick-up and drop-off included in the ticket price?

Yes, in Rovaniemi and the surrounding area up to 10km. If you want to get picked up from a more remote location, please contact me first!

  • When is the pick-up time?

In between 18:30 (6:30 P.M.) and 19:30 (7:30 P.M.), depending on the location for your accommodation and the route we will take that night.

I will message you a more exact time by noon on the day of the tour after I wake up!

  • How long does the tour last?

Usually 4 hours minimum, 12 hours maximum with an average duration of around 6-7 hours.

We’re usually back in Rovaniemi by 1-2 A.M. but sometimes the tour lasts longer if the drive is longer and/or the Auroral activity weaker.

  • What should we wear and take with us for the tour? What about food and drinks?

Multiple layers of warm clothing and warm boots, hats and gloves. I recommend eating a hefty dinner before your pick-up and taking some snacks and drinks with you - just keep in mind that there are usually no indoor toilets open anywhere in Lapland after 10 P.M.!

  • What sets you apart from the other 1 000+ Aurora tours in Rovaniemi?

I’ve lived my whole life in Lapland and started hunting for the Auroras since 2012 - far longer than almost anyone else. Since then I’ve developed and perfected my own method of hunting for the Auroras and hold a success rate of more than 98% - much higher than most others. Finding the Auroras and getting my customers to experience them in all their glory is my passion, not just a job.

Unfortunately there are a lot of mass tourism companies selling cheap tickets for Aurora tours but sadly you often get what you pay for: inexperienced non-local guides driving to predetermined crowded locations for a specific amount of time until they are ordered to get back to Rovaniemi to cut costs as much as possible.

I can’t even begin to tell how many times I’ve witnessed other tours start driving back to Rovaniemi as soon as they have spotted the first Auroras and taken the first portraits with some green color in the background. Almost always the best Auroral show isn’t the first one but comes later, closer to midnight. On my tour you decide how long you want to enjoy the Auroras!

As you can read from my reviews, customer satisfaction is my highest priority above everything else and it shows: I go the extra mile when a lot of the other companies do the bare minimum.

  • What is the best way to contact you? Why aren’t you answering my calls or replying to my messages instantly?

WhatsApp messages to my number at +358 50 312 2331. I handle all inquiries by messages only so that there won’t be any confusion about any details. I don’t have anyone else working for me so the only customer service will be from yours truly.

Even though I’m available for inquiries a lot of the time I can’t be within reach 24/7, so if you have any further questions that you can’t find the answer to from this FAQ I will reply to your message as soon as I possibly can! :)

My name is Velu, I'm a local wilderness guide from Rovaniemi and I've lived all my life all around Lapland. I started hunting for the Auroras back in 2012 and in late 2023 I decided to start hunting for them professionally. My highest goal is to get to share all of these incredible experiences that I love so much!
